Do you find yourself knowing that you need to do something, but don’t ever get to it?

Maybe there is so much going on in your life that you feel like you just don’t have the time…or when you feel like you do have the time you’re so exhausted you just want to rest.

If so, I wholeheartedly understand, and I am right there with you.

The good news is that there are tips to help you get on the track you desire, and the ones I will share are all proven effective in research, and in my own life.  Even to this day I use some of these suggestions to help me get on track with something new I would like to incorporate into my life.  Currently meditation.

At the moment I am reviewing tons of brain research on meditation for my upcoming book that provides evidence on how this can be used to enhance, not only the structure of your brain, but your life – your health, your creativity, your focus…and yes, even your passion.

However, after looking so much into the research I began to ask myself, “Why am I not doing this?  It has so many proven benefits.”  Yet despite having this knowledge, I still have to work on ingraining it into my morning routine.

What I know for sure is that discipline can be a battle until it becomes a habit.

They key is to start.

Although it varies from person-to-person, I will share the most general, effective- research proven methods that you can use to help you become and stay disciplined.


First there are a few ways you can create habit, but in this blog I will just share one and then a few more in other future posts.

It’s one of the secrets to disciple, and even will power.  One of the most important ingredients to staying disciplined is to transform it into a habit – just like your morning or nightly routine.

My guess is that you probably have good hygiene – you take care of yourself because 1) it’s normal and healthy lol 2) most people do; 3) you’ve been doing these things so long that you don’t even have to think about it anymore because it’s just a part of your routine.

Of course, it is possible that at this point in your life, no one has to tell you to brush your teeth, take a shower, eat etc.  These things are so effortless to the point where it doesn’t even take much to think about, and or act out!

The reason why it’s hard to start something new is because you haven’t been doing it!  You do what you do because it is familiar, and as hard as life is, we do what we do because it is easier for us in the form of familiarity – such as, it’s something we are already comfortable with.

The nice thing is that depending on your goal, you don’t have to go all out and start every day.

You can begin with making incremental progress.  For instance:

Start with identifying the best, realistic time to work on your passion.

Is it Saturday morning only?

Is it Monday and Friday at 6pm?

Is it in the morning right after you wake up at 11am?

Can you squeeze in 20 – 30 minutes?  Or maybe you can start with 15 minutes?

When change or transformation needs to be made, starting small is always a great place to start because it makes it a bit easier to staying consistent.


Lasting change starts with strong emotion.  If you want what you say you do badly enough, you will make the time to do whatever it is you need to do.  For example, when I started working at a Law Office, I started off making $13.00, and for someone who needs to afford to pay rent and their bills on their own, $13.00 doesn’t take you very far in Los Angeles.  At that time, I didn’t feel I had any other choice but to go back to school and get my paralegal degree.  Because I knew that – that degree alone, at that particular firm, was going to at least give me a $5 increase, not only did I have to go to school, I also had to pick up another part-time gig ON TOP OF having a full-time job and going back to school.

Looking back, I wish I could have thought about work the way I do know.  Nevertheless, I never wanted to go to school after work because I was tired, and much rather prefer to go home and relax.  Did I also mention I was waking up at 4am to go to the gym during this time as well?

All I knew was that I didn’t want to do any of it for the sake of doing it, but I was so pissed off at only making $13.00 an hour that I pushed myself to do whatever it took to make more money, and it worked.  I just couldn’t stand being (what I considered poor).  I made myself so uncomfortable in my situation that I HAD to do all the extra work.

My questions for you are – are you uncomfortable enough?  Do you believe that working on your passion is going to give you want you want badly enough?  Have you created a vision that is so worth having that you will do anything for it?

Whether you make yourself angry about not reaching your dream or make your-self happy/inspired about achieving it, the bottom line is, you need feel uncomfortable enough that your emotions push you to do whatever it is you need to do.


Look, sometimes the truth is we can’t do everything alone and we need someone’s help.

Some people need to hire a personal trainer in order to assure they get their workout in.  Other people don’t need someone else to hold them accountable and they can go in to the gym 3-5 times a week with no problems.

But for you….

Who will be the one that will hold you accountable?  Or do you even need for someone to hold you accountable?   Who do you have, know, or can work with that can hold you to your word?

For instance, sometimes I have to tell my boyfriend if he can ask me every day if I have meditated.  Because 1) I know he will ask and I don’t want to feel bad about myself admitting “I didn’t” 2) if he gets to the point where he asks so much and I keep saying “no” it will bug me to the point where I just push myself to meditate anyway.

Who can you rely on?

Perhaps you already know, but change doesn’t come easy, and it’s not supposed to.  Because change equals growth, and growth requires strength.

If you can make your goal/dream worth achieving, you will always find the strength and the way, to get where and what you want.
